Thank you Ceford, I had changed those values a couple of weeks ago. But that was in php.ini for Joomla 7.4. I'd forgotten about that, but is that related to the error messages I am asking about? I have now updated those values to 64 mb in php 8.2. I quoted the messages from logs/joomlaupdate.php in my first post. I don't think there's anything more to see there. but I will look now:

Ah it's gone! The only file now in administrator:logs is "error.php", and the last thing recorded in there is from the 3rd of March. Weird.

However, here is the error message I got when installing:

Everything seems to be working OK now. But I hope I don't need to uninstall and reinstall because of this.

Actually I've just found the joomla_update.php file in ./administrator/administrator/logs. The last 4 lines read:
03-14T02:22:36+00:00WARNING 192.168.0.17jerrorRefresh Manifest Cache failed: PLG_SYSTEM_ACTIONLOGS Extension is not currently installed.

2024-03-14T02:22:36+00:00INFO 192.168.0.17updateUpdate to version 4.4.3 is complete.

Many thanks for any suggestions you can make!
